Furniture For Your Condo Or Small Home

Condo Generation

I curated this list in 2010 when I bought my first condo… now I’m on condo number three (and married with a rambunctious toddler)!

Choosing to raise our family in downtown King West, I know all about maximizing small spaces. If you recall Toronto Life’s cover story 2 summers ago, that was my little family featured in an article called ‘Condo Generation’.

When it comes to furniture shopping, the experience can be overwhelming and frustrating – not to mention, the huge dent it puts in your wallet. So here’s my list of places (beyond Ikea!) that I found during my own quest to seek out stylish furniture that is of good quality, design and reasonably priced. Happy Shopping!

Condo Furniture

KROFT: designs and makes beautiful handcrafted furniture right here in Toronto. Condo dwellers and small home owners will especially appreciation their collection of bedroom, dining and living room furniture with clean lines and modern finishes. They also meticulously customize pieces. $$$

Design Republic: my fave store because how can you not love a place where their mantra is “Furniture for the People”? Whether you are searching for the edgiest modern sofa, design classics or industrial and vintage pieces, you can find it here at their Queen West showroom. Great service and custom solutions available as well. I bought most of my living room furniture here and they made me a cool custom wooden bench! $$$

Small Space Plus: this proudly Canadian owned retailer doesn’t sacrifice on quality. They carry smartly designed pieces that are functional and price conscious with the aim to find small space solutions for small space living. $$

Urban Mode: a hidden gem and another one of my favourite shops. This place is not very big but it is owned by a couple of very friendly knowledgeable ladies. They do have some condo furniture on display as well as lots of cool decor pieces and the popular Chilewich mats in all sizes and colours. $$

CB2: a modern destination from Crate and Barrel that will furnish every room in your modern apartment, loft or home without too much denting in your wallet. Conveniently located in condo land on the corner of Queen West & Bathurst. $$

BoConcept: furniture in their collection is functional, contemporary, timeless and comfortable. They also provide an in-home design consultation service and turn-key furniture solutions so that you can move in or have your rental property fully furnished in less than three weeks. $$$

Leon’s Roundhouse: this is not your mom’s Leon’s! They opened a huge flagship store right in Cityplace downtown so it is loaded with furniture fit for condos and small homes at budget savvy prices. $

EQ3: the perfect store for condo dwellers and priced quite well! They offer a wide selection of modern pieces and accessories to furnish every room. Multiple locations with well layed out showrooms and helpful staff. $$

Blvd Interiors: this is THE place to shop if you live in a smaller condo. Their stuff looks good, is compact, functional and reasonably priced. They often have demo sales too and renew their merchandise often. $$

Urban Barn: Ikea-type furniture (but better quality) for your living, dining and bedrooms. This is the classic place to find all your chocolate brown and taupe colour furniture with lots of nice matching home accessories. $$

West Elm: a lot like EQ3 with multiple locations, approachable staff and modern selection. They also carry outdoor furniture, bedding, rugs, drapery and plenty of lovely “gotta have” home accessories. $$

Umbra Store: it is what it is. All the neat trinkets you can image (picture frames, bathroom hardware, kitchen accessories, clocks, bedding, etc.) You pay for the ultra hip and urban design! $$

Structube: another furniture haven for condo dwellers and those who prefer the compact and functional Ikea-type look! Wide selection of glass, wood, stainless stain pieces and frequent sales and new merchandise. $$

Design Within Reach (DWR): this is the place to go if you are into designer furniture. The prices are above average but you can tell it’s quality stuff. They carry modern classics from Kartell, Herman Miller and Knoll. $$$

casalife: one of my personal favourites! They carry furniture made for loft living or larger condos with clean lines and sleek designs. Slightly above average prices but a large selection to chose from and options for customization. They also carry mirrors and lighting. $$$

UpCountry: another one of my fave stores! The showroom is massive and very well organized – instead of the furniture categorized by types, they have it setup and coordinated into mini demo rooms. There are lots of high gloss pieces, sectional sofas and beautiful stained wood tables. Their stuff is typically bigger so more suited for house owners or large condos/lofts. $$$$

Nirvana Home Collection: aside from carrying a wide range of Tempur-Pedic mattresses and products, they are also the official distributor for Herman Miller and specialize in ergonomically modern furniture for the home office. $$$

Inner Luxe: shop here if you want comfortable design for the everyday home. Their contemporary designs are warm and inviting with clean lines that are reminiscent of the Bauhaus period and we love that many pieces are designed and manufactured in Canada! $$$

Ethel: want to bring the Mad Men set to life in your own home? Head over to this Leslieville shop and find all things mid-century modern and vintage. $$$

Casper Mattress

Casper Mattress comes in six sizes starting at $725. Each bed is designed with just the right bounce and sink for outrageously comfortable sleep. They have an excellent trial policy – test it out for 100 days and if you are not having sweet dreams, return it for free. $$

Here’s an automatic promo code to snag $75 off your mattress plus free shipping.

Hi, hate to comment on an old post, but came across it and wanted to say thanks. I bookmarked your link to purchase later this month when I’m done moving in and just wanted to say thanks again.
